Collects debts. Misses appointments.

Known Habits

By noon, every porch has heard the same report. He crossed the county line before breakfast, accepted coffee without thanks, and left one boot print beside the till. Nobody saw him hurry. Nobody remembers agreeing to anything.

Before Sundown

Outlaw Doge works the long road between quiet towns. He listens from beneath the brim, lets the cigar burn low, and waits for boastful men to finish talking. His scarf carries dust from every border. His ledger carries no names. At sundown, a chair is empty, a debt is settled, and the sheriff is asking yesterday's questions.
